Here balance refers to both the ability to maintain equilibrium and the balance between mind and body.
Both the exercise part of each class, as well as the games, played help in gross motor skill development and overall body coordination. The child learns to invest their mental focus and attention into body awareness.
Central to the program is the element of focus. Focus, concentration and lengthened attention span are required in all program activities.
The Calm Jr. program has tremendously impacted both of my boys’ lives. I have seen my ten-year-old son go from a shy toddler who struggled with anxiety and fear of water to a confident, soon-to-be middle schooler that looks forward to diving into the pool. Through mentoring, meditation, leadership activities, and team-building activities, he has grown confident not only in facing his fears but in trusting his ability to overcome all the challenges he faces daily.
What makes CALM Jr. unique?
Unlike competitive sports that can create feelings of inadequacy, CALM™ Jr. program ensures that the students do not experience unnecessary pressures or stress placed on them by the competitiveness of the activities. Each student is encouraged to progress at his or her own pace and all efforts are equally acknowledged and praised. We hope to foster the growth of a healthy, happy, and kind child through a balanced and enjoyable program where children can develop a repertoire of motor skills, achieve success at their own levels, improve balance, focus, and coordination, increase attention span, and feel confident in their own abilities to pursue more active lifestyles.
7 Benefits of the CALM Jr. Program
1. MANAGE ANXIETY
The breathing exercises and relaxation techniques learned from practicing yoga can help children with stress management. Teaching children how to reduce stress in a healthy way is an important life skill that will help them as children and as adults.
2. REGULATE EMOTIONS
Children learn to be in the present moment while relaxing and gaining a peaceful state of mind, which ultimately improves their emotional regulation.
3. BOOST SELF-ESTEEM
Do wonders for their self-esteem. Perfecting a pose or improving their balance and flexibility can give young children a sense of personal empowerment.
4. INCREASE BODY AWARENESS AND MINDFULNESS
Going through a variety of exercises and poses helps children learn about their bodies and the movements they’re capable of doing.
5. ENHANCE CONCENTRATION
Movements require children to focus and work on their memorization skills—both of which can translate over into their academic performance.
6. DEVELOP STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY
Strengthen children’s growing bodies and helps them improve their flexibility, which can reduce their chance of injury.
7. REDUCE IMPULSIVITY
Develop self-discipline and reduces impulsivity.
